A Windows Update for XP came out today July 9 2008, it was a security update to stop someone remotely taking over your PC. It definitely works, although connected you can no longer access the Internet or send and receive mail. Reconfiguring connections etc. doesn't seem to work. Only way to get reconnected is to uninstall the latest security update via Control Panel > Add and Remove Programs.
Do not install this update until Micro$hit have fixed it, give it at least a week. If you have installed it then I'm afraid you will not be able to read this advice and you will be completely on your own trying to figure it out.
Micro$hit strikes again!!!!!
